ReelTime Privacy Policy

Effective July 2, 2026

The short version

ReelTime has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. It has nothing that identifies you, so there is nothing on its servers tied to you. The one thing it can send out is an address you type yourself, and only to work out when you should leave home. The result of that one lookup is briefly cached, which is explained in full below.

What stays on your device

Your preferences (chosen theme, preferred theater chain, and the home address and theater you pick for "leave on time") are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app or clearing website data removes them.

Network requests

When you pick or search a movie, the app asks our server for showtimes-related information (now-playing lists, runtimes, posters, trailer and post-credits research). These requests contain the movie title and your selections, never your name, contacts, or any identifier tied to you. Movie data is provided by TMDB. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

"Leave on time" and your address

This part is optional. It does nothing unless you type a home address, and the rest of the app works fine without it.

If you do use it, ReelTime sends the address you typed to a geocoding service (Nominatim, run by OpenStreetMap) to turn it into rough coordinates, then sends those coordinates and your chosen theater's coordinates to a routing service to estimate the drive. Before anything is sent or cached, your coordinates are rounded to two decimal places, roughly a kilometre, which is precise enough for a drive-time estimate and far too coarse to identify a building. The address is never written to our logs, and it is never attached to anything else you do in the app.

So the same address is not looked up twice in a row, the result of that geocode (the rounded coordinates, plus the first part of the address the geocoder gives back, which is typically a house number, street, and city) is cached on our side for about a week. That cache entry is filed under a one-way hash of what you typed, not under the address itself, and it carries nothing that connects it to you, to your device, or to anything else you did in the app.

ReelTime never reads your device's GPS or asks for location permission. The address is only ever one you typed. Clearing it in the app, or clearing website data, removes it.

The "Directions to the theater" button hands only the theater's own coordinates to your phone's maps app. Your home address is deliberately not included, so the route simply starts from wherever you are.

Sharing

The "Share the plan" button uses your device's own share sheet. What you share, and with whom, is entirely between you and your group chat.

Children

ReelTime is suitable for all ages. It builds no profile of anyone, children included, and nothing it sends is retained in a form tied to a person.
